Abstract

The municipality of Santarém, west of Pará, area of influence of the federal highway BR-163 (Cuiabá-Santarém), has been consolidating itself as one of the main outlets for the flow of grains via ports to the international market. In this process, there is a reorganization of urban space to meet this demand, especially in neighborhoods such as Área Verde, affected by the increase in port activity in recent years. This spatial area is located in the east of the city, limited in its northeast portion by the Amazon River and to the east by the floodplain of Maicá Lake. In this context, this work aims to analyze the relationship between port expansion and changes in land use and coverage in the neighborhood in question between 2002 and 2022. To this end, in addition to the bibliographical, cartographic survey and documentary analysis on port dynamics in the Amazon, geoprocessing techniques such as the supervised classification of images obtained through Google Earth from the years 2002, 2014 and 2022, using the Quantum GIS software. Thus, three classes of land use and cover were determined: vegetation cover, disturbed area and hydrography. In response, the most representative class in the neighborhood is vegetation cover, followed by the anthropized area class, which showed an increase in the analyzed period, but with a significant reduction in the hydrography class in the same period. Changes in land use and coverage in the Área Verde neighborhood arise from port expansion in the region, which demands greater participation from public authorities in terms of management and planning of these spaces.

Bacharel e Licenciada em Geografia pela UFPA, especialista em Análise Ambiental e Gestão do Território pela ENCE-IBGE, Mestre em Geografia pela UFRJ, doutora em Desenvolvimento Socioambiental pelo NAEA-UFPA e Professora do Programa de Ciências Econômicas e Desenvolvimento Regional da UFOPA. Atua na área de cartografia, Planejamento e Gestão Territorial, Ensino de geografia, Geoprocessamento e Sensoriamento Remoto. Coordenadora do Laboratório de Análise Espacial e Gestão do Território (Laeget).

Luciana Goncalves De Carvalho, UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO OESTE DO PARÁ

Doutora em Ciências Humanas-Antropologia (PPGSA/UFRJ, 2005), com pós-doutorado em Antropologia na UnB (2020-2021). Professora Associada na Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará, atuando nos cursos de graduação em Antropologia, mestrado em Ciências da Sociedade e doutorado em Sociedade, Natureza e Desenvolvimento (Ciências Ambientais). Professora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia e Antropologia da UFPA. Líder do Grupo de Pesquisa Diversidade Cultural, Território e Novos Direitos na Amazônia, com pesquisas em andamento sobre direitos coletivos e conflitos socioambientais em comunidades rurais, ribeirinhas e extrativistas afetadas por projetos de desenvolvimento e Unidades de Conservação. Coordena o Programa de Extensão Patrimônio Cultural na Amazônia (Proext//MEC) desde 2010, com atuação na região da Calha Norte. De 2001 a 2010 atuou como pesquisadora e gestora de diversos projetos de pesquisa e desenvolvimento no campo do patrimônio cultural brasileiro, no Centro Nacional de Folclore e Cultura Popular/Iphan e na Superintendência do Iphan no Pará. É autora de publicações sobre patrimônio cultural imaterial, cultura popular, memória, trabalho e conhecimentos tradicionais em comunidades amazônicas, bem como de relatórios técnicos, laudos e outros estudos antropológicos em processos de regularização fundiária, disputa territorial e conflito socioambiental.
