Professional management in family business: stagnate or innovate?

Abstract

For his contribution to the Brazilian economy, family businesses occupy a prominent position in the business. Many large companies in the country are, or have already been familiar in essence, that number could be even higher were it not for the complexities faced by these organizations during their generations. Therefore, this paper's theme is family businesses, in order to study the categories management, governance, professionalism and organizational culture. In this sense, the objective of this study is to investigate and analyze these theoretical categories in family businesses are small, targeted trade in the Vale dos Sinos (RS). Was used in this exploratory work through multiple case studies, through the data were collected through unstructured interview with open questions. It appears that some changes do not occur according to the aspect of professionalism, but by way of management and decision-making process of the company. Some processes are often more enriched and more worked in a few family businesses focus of this study, however, all they had to appear in the dynamics of these organizations.
