GAPS AND MUNICIPAL HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN THE STATE OF MATO GROSSO DO SUL FROM 2005 TO 2013

This article aims to analyze the evolution of the socioeconomic development of municipalities from Mato Grosso do Sul State (MS, Brazil) from 2005 to 2013, measured by the Firjan Index of Municipal Development (FIMD) that analyses the interaction of public social spending on work and income, health and education sectors. The municipalities were classified in: i) trend to growth; ii) trend to development; iii) vicious circle; iv) virtuous circle. Result showed a great gap among municipalities, enhanced on that located in international borderlines. It also revealed that municipalities with major spending on health and education presented a virtuous circle of development.Downloads
