Abstract

this article analyzes the dynamics and structure of the babaçu production chain in the extractive reserve of Ciriacó, in the municipality of Cidelândia, MA, Brazil, from the technical approach of the Global Value Chain. We adopted an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative method by formal and informal interviews with key actors of the productive chain, technical visit to a babaçu processing industry and the use of secondary data. The results show that part of the babaçu processing industry is manually operated by the local actors and the main source of income comes from the babaçu collection. We conclude that this process influences the local development.
