Abstract

This article analyzes the internal organization and the diversity of family production systems integrated into the palm oil industry Northeast Pará. 162 farmers integrated in the palm oil agribusinesses in the region were interviewed and were identified five types of production systems in family farming in the palm oil production. There is a tendency to specialization in the palm oil production at the expense of cassava. Thus happens a reduction of the availability of skilled labor and land as these factors are allocated to palm oil production. Farmers point out that they choose palm oil production for being an activity established by contract, which guarantees the purchase and marketing of production, and for the support of the technical assistance of palm oil companies. We conclude that the palm oil production is perceived by farmers as a development opportunity.
