Abstract

The present text discusses public policies of education integrating the debate on the hegemonic conception of culture that permeates daily relations experienced at schools. This observation considers the role of school as an education institution, the vanishment of the humanistic dimension in present day school background and the absence of a relation between education and cultures which should be present in the centre of the development of education policies in order to attend the citizenship magnitude in the process of education. Given such context and relying on data from empirical researches carried out by the authors, alternatives were searched to make possible to overcome a stress that reveals itself as one of the main dilemmas of present day school.
