Development as freedom: the police protective services of expansion of individual freedoms

This article analyzes the development as freedom through the police in the city of Teresina (Piauí), in the period 2011-2012. The development considered in this paper starts from the perspective that the security and expansion of individual liberties are important variables in development as freedom. The theoretical uses the ideas of Amartya Sen and Luiz Eduardo Soares to associate development and public safety. In the contribution of research tools is made use of interviews, analysis of official documents in the interpretation of empirical data the categories led to the organization of information and the text so that the analysis occurred by progressive theory from the reference. The survey showed that the police are essential factors for development as freedom, and this perspective has contributed little to the security and expansion of individual liberties.Downloads
