Abstract

Even in times of sustainable development, global energy consumption is still dependent on fossil fuels, which also occurs in Brazil. The discovery of petroleum and natural gas throughout the coastline of the country emerges as a new mechanism for indicating progress prospects in various economic activities and consequently generating regional development around new areas of exploration. This paper deals specifically with the discoveries in the Santos Basin and adaptation requirements in the urban, environmental, infrastructure and technology, so that the full potential of this operation can be effectively converted into social advances especially for the metropolitan area of Santos.
